Pinterest as an Internet Marketing Tool

Pinterest is growing faster than LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter. Why? Because it is so visual! I started a Pinterest account and pinned a clients Interior Design photos and received between 5 and 7 repins immediately. These repins help boost traffic to my client’s website. The best use of Pinterest is for businesses that offer products that are visually appealing.

Examples include:
Pinterest

  • Jewelers
  • Clothing Stores
  • Shoe Stores
  • Interior Designers
  • Photographers

As I started building boards on Pinterest, as a marketer, of course I started thinking of ways to incorporate Pinterest into the marketing plans of my clients. And these are some of the reasons to do so as outlined in my associate Sue Cooper’s blog Post, “5 Reasons Why You Should Use Pinterest as an Internet Marketing Tool.” In addition to the compelling reasons Sue points out, a commenter points out these benefits:

  1. Once your website is pinned you get 3 backlinks
  2. Google has interest in social media signals and Pinterest is Social Media
  3. Pinterest links are dofollow even for the images
  4. Pinterest supports anchor text, a perfect place for keywords

Sadly, Pinterest could easily get abused by spammers for the very reasons pointed out in the bullets above. My word of advice is to use Pinterest to engage your community and share images that will be of interest to your community.

Be Sociable, Share!

I’m always hesitant to jump on the latest social media fads but I finally broke down and joined Pinterest. I found that I actually liked it and I’ve already started seeing traffic from it and I’ve been a member less than 24 hours.

This may be more profitable than seo.

Congratulations! I, like you, am also hesitant to jump on the latest fads, but the benefits of Pinterest cannot be denied!

I think I’ve got it figured out how you get three backlinks….maybe… Can you explain that? Thanks!

You get one follow link at the bottom of the pin. Another one when you click through on the larger image and a third in your profile. Here is a great post on finding your Pinterest backlinks:

    Thank you Colleen!
This is the first time I hear about Pinterest.
I never tried it, but I will use this tool as that you have mentioned it gives 3 immediate backlinks for a new site.

You’re welcome! Who knows how long it will be before a nofollow tag is added, but for now it works.
